Unrecognized Charges
I have charges from Valve Software or Steampowered.com that I do not recognize, what should I do?

Ensure that the charges were not authorized

First, we suggest that you check with the members of your household, family or friends to see if they’ve bought any video games or in-game content. Valve has no recurring fees or monthly charges unless otherwise explicitly stated as part of an online game subscription. Any charges from our company are for video games or in-game content (weapons, armor, currency, etc.) that is directly downloaded onto a computer. Please check to make sure someone in your household did not make these purchases.

If the total sum on your Steam purchase receipt does not match with what you see on your bank statement, get in touch with your bank to find out more: in some countries, banks may add additional processing fees, taxes, or conversion charges to the final total, even if you made the purchase on Steam with your local currency. Steam does not control these fees.

Why you should contact Steam Support before disputing the charges

We strongly suggest that you contact us before filing a dispute with your bank or with PayPal as we can return the funds to you without any paperwork or claim forms. We will also ban your payment account from our system so that it cannot be used again. As part of this process, we can also investigate the fraudulent individual's Steam account(s) and take appropriate action against them.

Information to submit for unrecognized Credit Card charges:

  • The approximate date of the charge
  • The exact amount of the charge as it appears on your statement
  • The type of card that was used (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, etc.)
  • The last 4 digits of the credit card
  • A phone number that we can use to reach you if necessary

Important:

Many bank accounts have multiple cards attached to them. If a family member also has a card with a different number that is attached to the bank account that was charged, you may need to provide the requested information for that card as well.

Information to submit for unrecognized PayPal charges:

  • The approximate date of the charge
  • The exact amount of the charge as it appears on your statement
  • The Order Description and Invoice ID from your PayPal billing statement for this charge
  • A phone number that we can use to reach you if necessary

Warning:

Steam Support will never request your full credit card number, expiration date, or CVV code. Do not provide this information in your Steam Support ticket.
